Thought I show a couple of photos of printmaking rather than just the finished one piece. My work tends to be a mixture of screen print/ paint/ drawing/ CAD. I generally use 72 screens and expose with a halogen light box rather than UV. Exposure times are roughly the same a 45 screen does take longer, a 100 screen takes about 2 minutes.

The Big Issue in the North Photomarathon

The Big Issue in the North are running two photomarathons in Liverpool and Manchester. It is a photograph competition with a twist: Over the course of one day you take pictures on 8 given topics. It’s not your physical condition, or equipment that matters but your sense of improvisation, fun and creativity that is valued most throughout the Photomarathon.The topics are kept secret until the day. Kopparberg designs

Kopparberg through Jotta asked for some t shirts designs that were new and original based around the word 'Find' and would appear at music events for new bands. These are my entries. Based around a quote from Proust "the voyage of discovery is not seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes". The idea being that the main image, on these a tower block, can change and that great new music can be found in places you would not expect.

Cannes Film Festival

The greatest piece of graphic design for me will always be the poster to Vertigo by Saul Bass, it was the first piece of design that I fell in love with. Years later along came an opportunity to design a film poster for the Cannes Film Festival and here it is, hopefully this will be the first of many. The film is "Dora" and is produced by 28films, written, produced, directed and starring Delia Antal, it follows her journey from Romania to England. The film is now being shown at the Cannes Film Festival and has also been entered for the Venice Film Festival.

Boom! Event transport

Graphic design for the event transport company Boom!
I designed everything from the logo to the finished posters. Boom! specialise in transport for bands hence the imagery. I wanted the imagery to be able to change colours so they could always be kept fresh. Top three designs are the posters and the bottom one is the flyer.

All projects for me start the same, I photograph anything I think can be source material. When it comes to my own personal projects I take a little bit more care with them. I recent showed my seaside photos on Jotta which ended with them making me their artist of the day, which was very nice of them. I wanted to photography to look like the snaps I have of my childhood with its distinctive colouring. Click on the title to see photos from Blackpool to Hopton.

Logo for the photographer Jen Kweeday. Designed to look like the logos you find on road signs and in places like railway stations, I wanted to show that if you are in Liverpool and want a photographer there is only one place to go. From my research I knew that there was a lot of photographers in Liverpool and had the words "stamp of quality" in my head so I combined the two idea streams together. Acquired Collective send me a 1970's postcard and I then had to come up with something new. Inspired by Richard Hamilton's Toaster (1967) and design groups such as The Small Stakes, I wanted to take the postcard and turn it into a simple screen printed poster. Adding the symbol and text from the back of the postcard to make it more graphic in appearance, I wanted it to look like an advertisement for the place but by doing the photograph in greys and with a rougher edge to it I wanted to add a touch of melancholy to it.

Print of Union flag, I wanted to use an old screen so there was ghosting within the pattern of the flag. I tried different prints with more solid shapes and some were the ghosting is more prominent.

More illustrations from The Ballad of Sandy Bank Road. I wanted to pick everyday signs and with this print it twice on top of each other, one print is precise the other is under exposed. It was inspired by discovering a beat up cover of 'Out to Lunch' which is a classic Blue Note sleeve.

T shirt design. With lots of skulls in fashion it was suggested that I try to come up with my own version, the only other thing I remember a skull from is the opening credits to Live and Let Die so I decided to combine that with the opening to Casino Royale and have a King of Spades with a sinister feel.

Acquired Collective sent me a beer mat and asked me to produce something new, I wanted to keep it simple so have enlarged and screen printed it. For the Broadside one I wanted to make it dirtier and bring it closer to the artwork I do.

Acquired Collective sent me a seven inch single by Frank Weir called Hawaiian Honeymoon. Frank Weir was famous for his version of The Happy Wanderer (you would know it if you heard it) this is one of his later singles. I wanted to create an A3 screen printed poster as the back of this single had some great classic design.

A couple of illustrations on the seaside town of Towyn. The whole project was hugely inspired by Stephen Shore after falling in love with his Uncommon Places which is my Bible, though in the end because this was always going to be a screen printed the photography tended to have one place and a lot of sky so probably owes more debt to American Surfaces. They were then used for a magazine called Nostalgi.

Collect London

Recently I designed a t shirt for a new company Collect London. I was given the word 'endangered' and then had to design something around it. I decided to go for a mixtape, the endless hours it took to do it with the end of songs cut off or bits of the next one. Now there is all sorts of apps that mix songs for you. The image above is an early version, I think that the final one is much improved.
